FAQs

Q?

What’s so “community” about the Jewish Community Camp?

A.

Our first priority is building community among our campers across both four-week sessions.
Part of the camper experience is in social action and serving the community. Give-back days, hands-on tzedakah (righteous justice), and social action by design projects are a regular part of each week.

Q?

Why is this camp different than all other camps?

A.

The Jewish Community Camp is a camp rooted in six values, each of which speaks to the character that our campers embody. Each day in the life of a camper revolves around:
  • Community
  • Integrity
  • Compassion
  • Tenacity
  • Courage
  • Responsibility
During each four-week session, we focus on building a stronger camp community while realizing each camper’s place in the larger community as a whole. While celebrating robust Jewish culture both locally and throughout the world, campers will develop their own identity and work with others to “heal the world” through a variety of social action projects.

Q?

Who is on staff at the Jewish Community Camp?

A.

The Jewish Community Camp is an endeavor of the Jewish Federation of Florida's Gulf Coast, and the Federation staff and board provide the oversight and leadership in creating and managing the camp.
All camp staff are selected for their expertise in working with children. Our junior counselors are 11th & 12th graders and our senior counselors have college experience at a minimum. All of our staff including counselors, administrators and specialists work together to provide a program that is comprehensive, fun and stimulating. An extensive staff training program is provided at the start of the summer season and is ongoing throughout the summer. Young Israeli adults add to the wonderful summer filled with shared cross-cultural experiences.

Q?

Is financial assistance available?

A.

Yes! For those families that may need scholarship or fee adjustments, limited financial assistance is available. Contact the Federation offices at 727-530-3223 for more information.

Q?

Where is the Jewish Community Camp located, and what is the campus like?

A.

Our main “home base” will be at the beautiful camp facilities at 1685 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, on the Temple B’nai Israel property. At our camp, campers will experience great camp activities in our secure and comfortable indoor/outdoor complex—including our unit rooms, recreational fields, multi-purpose room with stage, outdoor classrooms, and playgrounds which gives our camp an abundance of space for small and large group activities. All swimming will be held at neighboring community pools and transportation for all off-campus activities will be provided for all campers.

Q?

What are the session dates and camp hours?

A.

Camp is offered Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 9 am to 4 pm. Before and after care is available.
Session 1:  June 12 - July 8, 2022

Q?

Withdrawal requests received on or before May 1, 2022 will have payments refunded, less the deposit. Q?

What food is provided, and what types of lunches can I pack for my camper?

A.

Every day, healthy morning and afternoon snacks will be provided to each camper. The camp follows kosher dietary laws. Please send lunches that are dairy, fish or parve (neither meat nor dairy) only. We have fresh water easily accessibly, and encourage campers to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. On each Friday of Summer Camp, a lunch of pizza and salad will also be provided. Upon registration, you’ll receive suggestions on lunch items.

Q?

Is this camp only for Jewish kids and Jewish families?

A.

We welcome all children, regardless of religious affiliation or observance, to participate in our camp experience and to share in our rich Jewish heritage.
If your camper wants a summer experience filled with making new friends and memories, having active fun, and being in an environment that expands the heart and mind through building self esteem and serving the community, this is the camp for you.
